Episode 22 — The Need for Urban Church Planting

Urban environments present unique challenges to church planters, both from a financial and a cultural perspective, which causes some to be hesitant to plant in the middle of a city. However, with increasing populations, the need for urban church planting has never been greater.

In this episode, Ralph and Myron will sit down with veteran church leader Troy Evans to discuss the need for urban church planting and how to overcome the unique barriers it presents.

Troy Evans

Pastor Troy (Known as PE) is the husband of LaDawn for 18 years, father of eight children and seven grandchildren. PE, former gang member/leader surrendered his life to Jesus Christ after being indicted in a grand jury investigation. After being released from jail, he was homeless and hopeless. He surrendered to Christ at a church on the east side of Detroit. With only a 6th grade education he became a Systems Engineer and business owner. PE walked away from his life as a successful engineer/business owner to serve as an urban missionary to those in the hip-hop culture. As a result, he and his wife have planted three churches in the urban context, including The EDGE "Hip-Hop Church." He has become the go-to person and national speaker in the areas of church planting, urban ministry, youth engagement and urban business development. PE also serves as the Urban Church Planting Catalyst for the Wesleyan Denomination. He has been featured on several national media outlets to include 700 Club and the Harvest Show. PE's book, The EDGE of Redemption, is being used by universities and ministries to equip and challenge individuals to reach the "hard to reach" in the urban context.

We are better together!

“I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one—I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.”
