An Online, Interactive Show, Tackling Current Issues Facing Pastors and Planters
Episode 21 — Planting A Church Without Losing Your Soul

Church planting is not for the faint of heart. The process is more challenging and trying than many leaders are prepared for, and it’s easy to wind up burnt out or bitter. That’s why veteran church planters Peyton Jones and Daniel Yang are sitting down with Dr. Tim Morey, founder of Life Covenant Church in Torrance, California.

Together, they’ll talk about managing expectations, what to do in emergency situations, personal soul care, and what needs to change in American church planting culture. You don’t have to lose your soul to plant a church.

Peyton Jones is a serial church planter, author, speaker, outreach consultant, and founder of New Breed Church Planting.

Peyton served as a youth pastor, assistant pastor, and interim pastor of the mega church Refuge Huntington Beach that has served as his sending church since 1999 when he embarked on a 12-year mission to Wales, UK. Originally serving as the Evangelist at Dr. D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones’s historic Sandfields church, Peyton served as the both the interim pastor, and helped them plant their first church. From there, he engaged in a replant of a Baptist congregation in West Wales, which grew and led to Peyton planting a collegiate church. He also planted a church out of a Starbucks which multiplied to three churches, and a church in urban Long Beach, CA, that planted two other churches.

In both the UK and USA, Peyton formed the New Breed Network, a small network that specializes planting in hard places utilizing 1st century principles. Peyton also co-founded Church Planter Magazine, the Church Planter Podcast, the Hardcore Church planting podcast, and the Ministry Ninja Podcast. His books include Church Zero 2013, Reaching The Unreached 2017, and an unpublished church planting textbook 2021, and he developed CityWide to train planters in collaborative church planting teams wired for multiplication.

Daniel is the Director of the Send Institute, leading and overseeing all of its initiatives. Prior to directing the institute, he planted a church in Toronto where he also helped recruit, assess, and train church planters through the Send Network and the Release Initiative. Daniel has served on various church staffs including Northwood Church, led by Bob Roberts Jr., where he was trained as a church planter and involved in global and multi-faith engagement.

Prior to church planting, Daniel was an engineer for eight years. He earned an M.Div. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Michigan, and is currently a Ph.D. Intercultural Studies student at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.

We are better together!

“I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one—I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.”
John 17:22-23
